Activated Alumina Spheres 3-5mm, 25kg
Specification: Activated Alumina Sphere Type BIL-AA 3-5mm
Activated Alumina is an adsorbent used in both the drying and purification of both gases and liquids, such as air, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbons. Activated Alumina Spheres have a high surface area of typically 200m²/G, adsorption capacity and abrasion resistance. It is recommend for all dehydration units using either thermal regeneration or heatless (pressure swing) air dryers
Biodiesel producers use this product for the pre-drying of air which is used to bubble-dry water and or methanol from biodiesel, as well as for removing saturated water from Biodiesel. Another regular application is for the removal of water from petroleum products, such as Diesel, Kerosene, and Petrol. When using in an enviromnent where flammable liquids, gases or vapours are present it is vitally important to earth all vessels and eliminate all ignition hazards
Activated Alumina will adsorb 16-18% of its own weight in water before it is exhausted, this is equivalent to 1 litre (750g) of 3-5mm beads adsorbing 120-135 Mllilitres of water
Activated Alumina in active condition will release heat when adsorbing water or other substances. If a large quantity of activated alumina quickly adsorbs water, the adsorbent can become hot enough to cause thermal burns of the skin; contact has to be avoided under these conditions. To avoid the risk of explosion in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust, you are advised to earth containers electrically when pouring. Activated Alumina should be handled so as to avoid generation of dusty conditions at the workplace. When Activated Alumina is packed in drums, please use the appropriate lifting equipment so as to avoid injury. Please refer to your national laws and regulations if further information is required
To accomodate the Spheres, a vessel is required inside which the flow passes through from one end to the other, so that the air or liquid is passed through the full body of the Spheres, maximising their effectiveness.

Supplied in an active state, in air tight containers, the product must be commissioned imediately to maximise lifespan, as water in the air around an open canister will be rapidly adsorbed, exhausting the media
Product shelf-life from date of production is only 12 months in original container.
Product life once commissioned is 3-5 years, unless exhausted by saturation first. It is possible to regenerate alumina that has been used for air drying by baking in an oven at 220c, to drive out the water
