GENUINE Arkema SAR-GEL (Also known as SAR-GEL 160), Water Finding Paste, Made in U.S.A.
Colour Change:
- In Free Water, From WHITE to BRIGHT RED
For testing for the presence of water at the bottom of fuel storage tanks.
Arkema SAR-GEL 160, Water Finding Paste is used to gauge almost all petroleum products, including Gasoline and ethanol-blended gasoline up to E15, Diesel, Fuel Oil, Biodiesel, Light Crude Oil, Solvents and Jet-Fuel. It is the only paste that is recommended by the manufacturer for testing Jet-Fuel.
Arkema SAR-GEL 160, Water Finding Paste is a White paste that changes to Bright Red when immersed in free water or solutions of phase seperated water & ethanol at the bottom of the tank (innage gauge), giving you a visual indication as to the depth of the water present.
Water can then be pumped out, and the test repeated until there is insufficient water to pump, at which point one of our Water-Seekers or Oilybits Water Absorbing Polymer can be used to absorb the last of it.
To Use:
- Spread a smooth, even coat of the product on the bob or gauging device where you anticipate free water to be present.
- Lower the gauging device through the petroleum product to the bottom of the tank.
- Leave for approximately ten seconds. If there is water present, the White paste will turn Bright Red (See reaction times below)
- When reading the results, please note a straight demarcation on the gauging device.
Reaction Times (measured at 70°f)
Biodiesel | 2 Seconds |
Diesel | 1 Second |
Fuel Oil | 1 Second |
Gasoline Without Alcohol | Less than 5 Seconds |
Hydrocarbons | 1 Second |
Jet-A | 1 Second |
Light Crude Oil | 5 Seconds |
E10 | 90 Seconds |
E15 | 2 Minutes (not recommended for use below 70°f) |
Storage / Lifespan:
- Keep the caps tight to avoid moisture contamination.
- Once the seal is broken the paste will gradually absorb moisture from the air.
- Store in a dry environment, below 90°f.
- Arkema recommend a lifespan of 2 years if stored properly with lids securely tightened. Product can exceed this lifespan.
In both the Energy Institute’s HM-28 page 26 5.1.9.1 and the IFIA Bulletin, both recommend that ‘two’ different water finding pastes are ‘initially’ used, so you may wish to select another water finding paste to use in conjunction with this paste, from our selection HERE
