Subsea Industries, ECOSPEED, Long-Term Protective Hull Coating

Corrosion is one of the most significant challenges faced by ships and offshore structures. It leads to costly maintenance, unscheduled downtime, and early asset replacement. To combat this, Subsea Industries long-term coatings offer advanced protection against corrosion, cavitation, and abrasion, ensuring the longevity of your assets.

ECOSPEED is not like a standard Anti-Fouling product. ECOSPEED is a hard coating, which does not dissolve or dissipate into the water to shed marine growth, it is simply scrubbed clean, this can be done whilst the vessel is in the water, by hand with a scraper, by hydraulically powered rotary cleaning tools, or by robot, unlike anti-fouling products which require jet-washing off with the vessel on land, then re-applying to a clean, dry hull, often annually.

Features & Benefits

  • Glass-Platelet-Reinforced Vinyl Ester formulation. Unique to the Industry.
  • Abrasion Resistant to such an extent that it is class-approved and proven as an ice-abrasion resistant coating (PC1-PC7) for ships operating in polar regions.
  • Chemical Resistant, making it perfect for scrubber installations, including scrubber recycle tanks, scrubber pipes, and overboard discharge areas.
  • Reduces drag and therefore fuel consumption, providing significant savings.
  • Environmentally safe for marine life, non-toxic, does not degrade into the water.
  • Minimal touch-ups of damaged areas ensure a long service life without the need for full re-coating.
  • Eliminates the need for cathodic protection.
  • Can be cleaned in the water as aggressively and as often as needed without risk of damage. Any degree of fouling can easily be removed.
  • Long-term protection against corrosion in harsh marine environments.
  • No primer. Applied directly to prepared bare steel, 2 or 3 coats of 500μm each form a single, homogeneous protective barrier.
  • 2-layer application provides 10 years of protection. 3-layer application provides 15 years of protection.

Common Applications

  • Hulls of vessels, including; icebreakers, bulk carriers, and tankers.
  • Cargo and main decks of vessels.
  • EGCS-scrubber areas like overboard pipes, discharge areas, and recycle tanks.

Other Benefits

  • All coatings can be applied rapidly, ensuring minimal downtime for your vessels and offshore structures.
  • The coatings feature a minimum overcoat time of just 3 hours, allowing for faster project completion.
  • There is no maximum overcoat time, meaning that spot repairs can be easily done in the future without the need for full re-coating.
  • No special equipment or skills required for application - standard unfiltered Airless Spray Pump 63:1 or higher is recommended a 2ft spray distance.

Surface preparation:

  1. Grit blast the surface (steel, aluminum, or GRP) to SA 2.5 cleanliness and a 75 μm profile.
  2. First coat application: Apply the first coat using airless spray equipment to a DFT of 500 μm.
  3. Minimum overcoat time: 3 hours (no maximum overcoat time, can be applied to a fully cured coat).
  4. Apply a second and, if needed, a third coat, as per 2.
  5. After applying the necessary coats, a homogeneous protective layer is formed.
  6. This coating is ready for immersion 24 hours after the final coat.
  7. A qualified Subsea Industries inspector is available to assist during the application process, if required (price on application)
